7 Interior Design Tips for a Chic Bedroom

Your bedroom is a special place. It’s where you relax, recharge, and get ready to face the world. And, as such, it deserves special treatment. It’s also the perfect spot to express your unique style. If you’re unsure how to combine all of these requirements into one cohesive space, read on for our top interior design tips for your bedroom.
1. Create a Serene Space
A bedroom should feel like your own private refuge, and your decor choices should help support this goal. Start with a soothing color palette. Outfit your room in tranquil neutrals or soft, muted versions of your favorite hue for a calming effect. Then, layer in lots of texture to add interest – as opposed to bright colors or patterns.
To ensure daily stresses don’t creep into your place of peace, keep clutter out of the bedroom. The last thing you want to think about before you fall asleep is that pile of bills on the dresser or the laundry waiting to be folded.
2. Take a Seat
As part of your serene space, include a special spot to sit and contemplate your day. Turn a quiet corner into an intimate reading nook with the addition of a comfortable armchair. If you don’t have space for a sitting area, add a classy bench at the foot of the bed. For extra versatility, put a pair of ottomans together in place of a bench; they’ll be easy to move around when you need an extra seat.
3. A Headboard is a Must-Have
A headboard is probably the biggest game-changer to take your bedroom from functional to fabulous. For a lavish touch, choose a super-soft, upholstered headboard in velvet or suede.
You can also get creative and find unique ways to frame your bed and display your style. Try an old door or shutter for a shabby-chic headboard. Or, hang an elegant curtain for a romantic look that you can change out when the mood strikes you.
4. Window Coverings Are Especially Important
In other rooms of the house, you usually want to maximize natural light. But, at times, the bedroom calls for total darkness. In addition to decreasing light, the right window coverings can also help dampen noise or control temperature to create a cozy sleep sanctuary.
For example, cellular shades come in a range of colors, offer excellent insulation against noise, and can help block out heat or cold. If you need added privacy during the day, opt for sheers that will still let the light in, but pair them with blackout drapes or blinds to keep the light out when you need some extra shut-eye.
